Welcome to Madregal Designs
Madregal Designs was established in 1994, with a view to designing
and manufacturing quality period reproduction ironwork. Since those early
days we have expanded our product range and manufacturing ability to
include contemporary as well as reproduction historic products.
There is a modern myth that the crafts and skills no longer exist in England to produce traditional handcrafted metalwork, and it now has to be sourced from Eastern Europe or the Far East.
Steeped in tradition overlooking the Vale of Avalon and the ancient Glastonbury Tor, Madregal Designs produce such work using skills and technology handed down over generations. Madregal is run by Alistair James, ferronnier; a traditionally trained blacksmith, coppersmith, tinsmith, armourer, artist, and historical scholar with an in-depth knowledge of period styles and details covering Roman, Saxon, Medieval, Tudor, Jacobean, Georgian, Victoriana, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Modern eras. One of Alistair's great great grandfathers was a farrier to the Queen, based at Buckingham Palace.
Madregal's historical reproduction work can be found in the stately homes of Britain, and has featured in Film and Television.
Hand-in-hand with the traditional, Madregal are also skilled in modern engineering & metal finishing techniques. Working in association with carpentry, joinery, electrical, and glass specialists, Madregal can design and produce complete fully functioning, multi-disciplinary lighting and furniture pieces. Working as a supplier Madregal provide the metal components for inclusion in assemblies by others.
Offering a full creative design service Madregal produce bespoke designs to specific client requirements.
All architectural metalwork including gates, railings, grilles staircases, balconies and fixed lighting can be installed anywhere in the UK by experienced personnel, giving customers the peace of mind of a complete service.
